What did I learned from this assignment?
This assignment was quite an eye opener for me. I never really thought about what google said about me simply because I never thought it was relevant to my life, but now I know it is very important. I find myself in a program that leads to a career where advertising for yourself is really important and crucial. This allowed me to see that my current digital footprint truly was not a good representation of myself. Although when googling my name I come up first, the links are completely useless as they are very old and truly insignificant. This made me realize that I needed to change my digital footprint. I initially simply joined many different websites where I could post art in order to make my art come first. I then decided that I wanted my blog to be one of the top hits so I played around with the settings on wordpress.com and I managed to get my blog to be the first link when googling my name. Although I managed to do this once, the Internet seems to always be changing and one day the blog comes first, the other it’s not even on the list. Now, I knew that my imagearts website would be the best link to represent me and so I tried to get it to come up. Sadly, this is a truth that I learned during this process, google hates me. What I mean by that is that after doing all the steps I needed to make in order to get my site to come up and simply nothing worked. I submitted my URL to google and also to Webmasters and then added meta tags, but nothing worked. I tried including my name in the description meta tag as well as in the keywords meta tag and still nothing seems to be working for me. When googling my site’s URL still no result come up, meaning that google still does not have my site in it’s database. Overall, this experience has thought me tree major things. One, my digital footprint is important, and is not what it should be at the moment. Two, the internet is always changing, or at least google is always changing, the results I want can be there one day and the next gone. At last, getting your site to come up first with google is harder than it looks, as I followed all the steps google gave me and still nothing.
